PCI awareness: Chrome will stop sketchy sites

Message from UBC Treasury

Dear Merchants:

Most of UBC ecommerce sites are using redirects to reduce PCI scope, so there is a big potential for issues if Google does not get this right. If Chrome gets this capability, Edge, Firefox, Safari and the like will not be too far behind in implementing their own version.

Google is saying that it is for dealing with only “sketchy” sites. But is a checkout redirect going to be treated as “sketchy” once Chrome gets this update?

Once the new version of Chrome hits the streets there is a potential to affect even the checkout redirects. Probably you ought to give your ecommerce developers (service providers) a head up on this and get them testing your site once this new release is out.
